General education, not a coverage determination or a promise of savings. Terms, limits, deductibles, exclusions, eligibility and discounts vary by state, carrier and policy. Examples are illustrative. Your issued policy and endorsements control; an agent can help review them. Serving OH, PA, MI, TN, AZ and IN, subject to product availability.
Your belongings limit may not be your jewelry limit
Homeowners or renters insurance may include jewelry, but a special limit can apply, especially to theft. The overall personal property limit does not tell you how much would be paid for a ring or collection.
Theft, accidental loss and damage are different
A stolen necklace, a ring misplaced while traveling and a broken setting are different events. Standard coverage may not address them the same way. Ask about each situation rather than assuming “jewelry is covered.”
What does scheduling mean?
Scheduling generally means identifying an item for specific coverage through an endorsement. A separate jewelry policy may be another option. Ask which losses qualify, the covered amount, deductible and settlement method. Broader protection still has exclusions and conditions.
Before requesting a review
Gather descriptions, receipts, photos and any appraisals. Ask whether values need updating and whether the insurer requires a recent appraisal. Confirm protection away from home and during travel.
Would I receive cash or a replacement?
That depends on the contract. Ask how replacement is arranged, how value is determined and what happens if a comparable piece is unavailable.
